Embracing the beauty of simplicity in your life
Finding peace in the space between, lessons from my personal journey
Podcast & Prompts
l share with you a slightly longer delicious and l hope inspiring podcast where we have 20 ish minutes together to kick off a new week. (As a little thank you for the increased reading, noticing and new followers of my work over the last few weeks).
Today l’m sharing lessons from my personal journey in how embracing the beauty of simplicity has had a profound affect on how l see and act in life.
The timing of this piece somehow seemingly appropriate as here in the UK we have just had a Bank Holiday weekend. For many of us we look forward to having some extra time off, mainly because we think it will alleviate our stress levels. Only to find we cram it with visits and things to do and then before you know it, it’s time to return to work! Sounds familiar?
So what if instead, you could build a soft structure where you can feel you can experience less stress and allow things to become more simplified and not just on holiday’s? Whether it be enjoying what you love to do or just giving yourself permission to not do anything, no agenda instead just seeing what arises and going with the flow of that freedom.
A quick example l would like to share you. Yesterday evening after eating (as l had structured the first part of my day around cooking and preparing our evening meal as well as other normal mundane chores!) I was able to be spontaneous when my partner suddenly asked the question at 7.30pm shall we go for a short ride on our boat?
Typically l would have said no, as it was getting a little dark. However, something in me made me say YES ok. In the lead up as l mentioned l had structured my chores in the am so the pm was mine! A peaceful yoga practice on my floating lodge on the water followed by a quiet mindful dinner, some together time and a little tidy up on the boat, had put us both in a different state of feeling. So off we went. Once we were out on the water we both turned to each other and said what a good idea so glad we did this instead of watching some TV!
During the ride l began to recall something that Beth Kempton was talking about the other day when l was on her Spring Light Writing Sanctuary. Discussing how light, shade and dark in our environment invite us to observe certain places and structures from different perspectives. Unfolding to us what may be hidden, revealed, or distorted and how we can use that to uncover some of our personal stories.
Some prompts for consideration
What do you feel is being hidden in your life right now?
What aspect of your life do you or feel the need to shine a bit more light on?
What do you need/could you simplify for a little more ease?
Until next time…….
